What a Candle Means to Me
A candle doesn't have to mark a big occasion. It can be a small choice you've made simply because you like it. That might sound ordinary, but ordinary things deserve a little attention too.
When I talk about what a candle means to me as the founder of GAVIR, that's where I want to begin: with care, and with making room for your own preferences. Not a perfect room. Not a carefully staged version of home. Yours.
You don't need a whole new room
There's a lot of pressure to make everything look finished. Matching colours, matching accessories, a corner that would apparently photograph well from every angle. Lovely if that's your thing. Quite a lot of homework if it isn't.
I don't want GAVIR to become another list of things you ought to buy. One piece you genuinely enjoy can be enough. A shape that catches your eye, a colour that works with things you already own, or a fragrance you choose for yourself rather than because it's fashionable.
To me, that choice is part of what makes home personal. It doesn't need anyone else's approval.
The scent is your choice, not a test
You don't need a fragrance vocabulary to know what you like. You might be drawn to something sweet, prefer a fresher direction, or find that the scent everyone else talks about simply isn't for you. There's no wrong answer in that.
Before choosing, try finishing this sentence: “I'd like this to feel…” Perhaps your word is cosy, playful or understated. It's a starting point, not a promise that one candle will create a particular feeling.
Then look at the description and the design together. Would you still choose it if it weren't part of a trend? Does it appeal to you, or do you just like the photograph? Taking a moment to tell the difference can make browsing a little easier.
A small gift can say something simple
A candle can also be a way of paying attention to someone else. Not a grand gesture with a speech attached. Just a small gift chosen with that person in mind.
If you're choosing one, think about what you actually know they enjoy. Their colours. The kind of objects they keep around them. Whether they like home fragrance at all. A short note explaining why you thought of them can be more personal than a very elaborate wrapping plan.
What I want GAVIR to make room for
As GAVIR grows, I want there to be room for those individual choices. You might find something in a new collection, or connect with a piece from an earlier one. Newer doesn't automatically mean more “you”.
If you'd like a gentle browse, the GAVIR Archive brings together pieces from previous collections. Take your time with it; you don't need to turn finding something lovely into another task to finish.
For me, a candle is a small object that deserves thought, without needing a big story attached. What would make one feel like yours?
With love, Virginia
