Why I’ll Never Tell You There’s One Right Way to Enjoy Home Fragrance

There’s plenty of advice about home fragrance. What belongs in which room, which format you should choose and which scent is supposedly perfect for a particular season. Advice can be helpful, but it can quickly start sounding like a list of rules.

I don’t believe your home needs that kind of rulebook. I’ll always try to make choosing easier, but I’ll never tell you there’s only one correct way to enjoy fragrance in your own space.

Your preference is a real answer

If you love the same fragrance throughout your home, that’s a good choice. If you want every room to feel different, that can be a good choice too. And if you change your mind halfway through the month? Completely allowed.

Personal taste isn’t a problem to solve. It’s useful information. The fragrances you notice, the ones you return to and the ones that simply don’t feel like you all help shape a choice that makes sense.

Your routine matters more than a trend

Two people can buy the same type of home fragrance and use it in completely different ways because their days are different. One may want something for a quiet evening, while another wants a simple finishing touch before guests arrive.

Neither routine is more correct. A product only becomes useful when it fits naturally into your life. If something feels like another little task to manage, it probably isn’t making home feel any easier.

Your space can change the choice

Homes aren’t all the same size, shape or layout, and they don’t need to be styled in the same way. What feels right in an open-plan room may not feel right in a small, separate space. What you enjoy in autumn may be different from what you reach for later.

That’s why I prefer questions to instructions. Where will you use it? When will you notice it most? Do you want something familiar or something that feels a little different? Those answers are far more helpful than being told what you should like.

Guidance should give you confidence

For me, helpful guidance should narrow the noise without taking the decision away from you. It can explain the difference between formats, make fragrance descriptions clearer and give you a sensible place to begin.

You’re allowed to choose differently next time
