How to Store Seasonal Home Fragrance Until Next Year
Seasonal home fragrance has a habit of leaving you with a small decision at the end of the season. Do you enjoy that last candle now, keep the remaining wax melts, or tuck everything away and hope you remember where it went?
I think keeping a few favourites is perfectly sensible. The useful part is storing them in a way that protects their appearance and saves you from opening six mystery boxes next autumn. A little organisation now can make next year much easier.
Start with a quick, honest sort
Put your seasonal pieces together and decide what you genuinely want to keep. If something is already open and you would rather enjoy it now, leave it somewhere visible. If you know you will be pleased to find it next year, it belongs in the storage box.
This is also a good moment to check that lids, boxes and wrappers are clean and sitting properly. You do not need to create a museum display. You are simply making sure each piece is tidy before it disappears into a cupboard for a few months.
Keep the name with the fragrance
Months later, ‘the orange one’ is not always as helpful as it sounds. Keep the original label or write the product name and scent on a small card. Add the season too if you store autumn, Halloween and Christmas pieces together.
If you are putting away something such as GAVIR Autumn Wax Melts, keep the name with the box. Future you should not have to solve a scented guessing game in September.
Choose a calm, dry place
A cupboard or drawer away from direct sunlight and strong heat is usually the simplest choice. Windowsills, radiators and places with big temperature changes can be less kind to colour, shape and packaging.
Keep containers upright and shaped wax pieces flat where possible. A small box with a firm base works better than a soft bag that can be squashed under something much less delicate. Seasonal fragrance may be cosy; storage does not need to be dramatic.
Separate strong scents
Different fragrances can sit close together, but I prefer to keep them individually wrapped or in their own smaller boxes. This is especially useful for wax melts and decorative wax pieces. It keeps each scent easy to recognise when you return to it.
You can also group them by moment: autumn in one section, Halloween in another and Christmas in its own box. Add a simple note on top listing what is inside. No spreadsheet required — unless you genuinely enjoy a spreadsheet, in which case I respect the commitment.
Open your box before buying more
When the season comes round again, look through what you already have before choosing anything new. You may rediscover a favourite, notice a gap or decide that your taste has changed. All three are useful answers.
And if you enjoy rediscovering pieces from earlier collections, you can have a gentle look through the GAVIR Archive. But begin with your own little archive at home — it may already contain exactly what you fancy.
With love, Virginia
