From Autumn to Christmas: Choosing Seasonal Pieces You’ll Enjoy

The shift from autumn into Christmas doesn’t have to happen overnight. One day it’s pumpkins and warm earthy tones, the next it can feel as though every surface is expected to sparkle. I think there’s a much nicer middle ground: keeping the pieces that still make your home feel cosy, then adding festive details slowly and with intention.

For me, seasonal decorating should feel enjoyable, not like another job on the list. The best pieces are often the ones you genuinely want to bring out again — not the ones you bought in a rush because December suddenly appeared.

Keep what already works

Autumn and Christmas have more in common than we sometimes realise. Both seasons suit warm light, comforting fragrance, natural textures and little details that make evenings at home feel softer.

So before packing everything away, look at what can stay. A neutral candle, a dark decorative accent, a warm-toned tray or a simple diffuser can move easily from October into December. You don’t need to replace the whole room to change its mood.

Choose pieces with more than one moment

When you’re choosing something seasonal, ask yourself whether you’ll enjoy it for a few weeks or for the whole colder season. Pieces in cream, black, bronze, deep brown or soft metallic tones can feel festive without being tied to one particular day.

Shape matters too. A decorative object that looks lovely beside autumn leaves can often work just as well beside a small Christmas branch or a string of warm lights. That flexibility makes it easier to create a home that feels collected rather than crowded.

Change the mood, not the whole room

Sometimes one change is enough. A different home fragrance, one decorative focal point or a small arrangement on a table can gently move the room from autumn into Christmas.

Start with the place you notice most when you walk in. It might be a hallway table, a shelf or the corner where you sit in the evening. Give that one spot a seasonal update first. If it already feels right, you may discover you don’t need to do much more — which is good news for both your time and your storage cupboard.

Think about how you’ll actually use it

A beautiful piece is even better when it fits naturally into your routine. Before choosing, think about where it will go, how often you’ll use it and where you’ll keep it after the season ends.

If you love changing fragrance, a candle or wax melt may give you that little seasonal moment. If you prefer something that quietly works in the background, a reed diffuser may suit you better. There isn’t one correct choice; it’s about what feels easy in your home.

Make room for the pieces you love

Seasonal collections are there to inspire you, not to make you feel that you need everything. A smaller group of pieces you truly enjoy can have much more impact than a room full of things that don’t feel like you.

You can look through the GAVIR Archive for previous seasonal pieces, or try Find Your GAVIR Match if you’d like a little help choosing a fragrance that suits your mood and routine.

If you’d like a current seasonal starting point, you can also view GAVIR Christmas Advent Calendar 2025 – 24 Days of Festive Magic in the shop.

However you move from autumn into Christmas, let it happen at your pace. Keep what makes your home feel good, add what brings you a little joy, and leave the rest. That’s more than enough.

With love, Virginia
